LASWEB provides Pro Bono legal aid to needy persons whose income is below Rs.1,000/- per month. Women in distress and people belonging to scheduled castes and tribes are exempted from the obligation of meeting this criterion. A referral service scheme is also there for those whose and such persons will have to incur some additional expenses for lawyers’ professional charges.
There are two basic components of this legal assistance mechanism. In-house counselling for pre-litigational conciliation beneficial to clients is offered in the first stage at our different counselling centres. Subsequently, if conciliatory efforts fail, post-litigational assistance is rendered in courts of law or for out-of-court settlements. These services are also available in LASWEB’s central office at 10/1, Keyatala Lane (Ground Floor), Kolkata - 700029 or in all its branches and chapters at Barasat and Habra (North 24-Parganas), Baharampur(Murshidabad), Asansole(Bardhaman), Siliguri(Darjeeling) and Behala (South 24-Parganas).
